To help  make a difference in the community, the Evening Star Quilters proudly supports SafeHouse, which is a service offered by the YWCA of Greater Flint.

SafeHouse provides safe emergency shelter and supportive services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault throughout Genesee County. The length of stay in SafeHouse is up to 30 days with extensions depending on circumstances. There are no fees for service. Upon leaving SafeHouse, individuals may still access YWCA services. SafeHouse shelter services include:
  • Emergency Shelter
  • Referrals to Community Resources
  • Food
  • Clothing
  • Legal Advocacy
  • Child Care
  • Individual Counseling
  • Counseling for Children
  • Support Groups
  • Educational Classes

With the aforementioned in mind, the Evening Star Quilters collect and contribute items to the program, based on the following schedule: (revised April 2017)
  • January –  African American Hair supplies for girls and women
  • February – New underwear, bras, socks and slippers .. all sizes
  • March- Baby items:  shampoo, lotion, wash, wipes, bottles and pacifiers
  • April – Quilt Donations / blankets / afghans
  • May – Bath Towels, wash cloths
  • June – Diapers ( large sizes especially needed)
  • July – Personal Hygiene (deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.)
  • August – Children’s Clothing (socks, underwear, etc.)
  • September – Sheet sets all sizes
  • October – Quilt Donations / Jogging suits
  • November –  Children’s sleep wear all sizes
  • December – Diapers ( large sizes especially needed)
Monetary Donations can be made at any time

Project Linus Mission: 

Quilts equal hugs; donations are given to:
Hospitals / Pediatric Units
Ronald Mc Donald Houses   
Old Newsboys  
Cancer Camps
Grief Camps
Sparrow Hospital
Children of Armed Forces prior to deployment
Schools after a tragic event (death of student)
Other Child related charities where ever needed
   

Opportunity to Participate in PROJECT LINUS 

Takes knitted and crochet as well as quilted items as long as they are kid friendly.
