2017  The Year of the MICHIGAN QUILTERS  ....

All of our speakers this year are from across the state of MICHIGAN.   Up north to down south we have a lot of talent that have been imported to our guild for an evening of eye candy.  I have been told there are a lot of quilts coming in the trunk shows for our viewing.  So let us celebrate Michigan quilters.

April 26, 2017 -
Speaker:   Betsy Koss from Boyne City –

Old Quilts Workshop ..... How to use your old blocks, unfinished tops and vintage quilts and be able to use them.   Linda's workshop is a wonderful opportunity to learn about designing a quilt without the use of a pattern.

Workshop to be held at LINDA'S COUNTRY QUILT SHOP  ....
April 27th at 10:00 am

COST $15

Address: Linda's Quilt Shop
 3058 N State Rd F, Davison, MI 48423

Betsy says quilt history is a passion of hers.  She loves to investigate old fabrics and vintage blocks matching them to currently available reproduction fabrics to make a quilt.  She has been gifted vintage blocks by friends and buying them at antique fairs and now has a backlog of quilt tops and blocks to show.

She considers herself a traditional quilter but often takes antique blocks and puts them in unusual settings designing her own quilts.  She has been teaching how to mark quilts, how to fix old quilt tops to retain their value and various quilting techniques including BIG STITCH.

About Mary Bajcz ... as stated on her web page:

I've made quilts for about 35 years and am constantly delighted by the endless ways fabrics can be combined into a beautiful and useful quilt - art that can keep you warm.   I enjoy the serendipity in quilt making.  I start out with an idea, assemble a pile of fabrics, start cutting and sewing and watch to see if good things happen.   They usually do.  I also make smaller art quilts, reversible silk jackets, and loads of handbags.  About 12 years ago I discovered "free cut piecing", a technique that lets me "draw" with my rotary cutter.  It's my artistic voice!

I also knit,  hook rugs, and make lots of handbags

I had a delightful phone conversation with Phyllis.  She described her quilting as colorfully eclectic.  She loves bright colors, complex and challenging piecing and non -repetitive block construction.  She gets a lot of inspiration from her favorite quilt artists Jenny Byers,  Paula Nadelstern and Judy Niemeyer.  She says she has a 100 projects to pick from and plans to bring her favorite quilts.

Back by popular demand Denise Schober.  The guild members were so impressed by her lectures about threads, needles,  improving your quilting techniques, they asked to have her back this time with a workshop.  Denise is a nationally known sewing instructor who has taught on Martha Stewart, Martha Pullen and America Sew TV shows.  Her lecture was delightful and the guild sisters want an encore.
