From The President:
Mothers Day
is a celebration honoring the Mother of the family, as well as Motherhood, Maternal
bonds, and the influence of Mothers in society. It is celebrated on various
days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May!
In the United States, celebration of Mothers Day began in the early 20th
century! So, Happy Mothers Day!
Memorial
Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those that
died in service of the United States of America. This year we remember on May
29, 2017. I am proud to call myself an America, even with all the turmoil going
on! Wouldn't want to live anywhere else. How about you?
I am getting
antsy to get outside and tend to my garden! For the last several years I have
been buying perennials. Oh how I love when they start to pop up! It's like
they're popping up every year to say "Hello" come outside and enjoy
the beauty! Aaah, the sun beating down on my face is magnificent. Finally, cold
season has passed. The neighbors are outside. Yay! I miss seeing the life that
you see in the summer. But it's here and I am outside enjoying it! You know,
pulling weeds, planting bulbs, trying to get the bleeding heart to grow! This
will be my third try. Any hints out there? Oh yes, and mowing the lawn! Are you
laughing yet? Too much fun!
I have been
piecing my quilts like crazy, I'm inspired every time I see your quilts! You
folks are talented, don't you know it! I want to thank all of you for your
continued support and patience while I was healing from my surgery! I look out
into the audience of members and there are so many kind faces and smiles! Whew!
It boosts my confidence. THANK YOU! You're the best . I am getting to know more
and more of you each month and I should. I was trying to figure out how we
could mix it up and get to know each other, you know so we could support one
another in good times and bad!

Betsy Koss
was so informative! I enjoyed her view on quilts! That big stitch quilting is
so interesting and looks phenomenal ! I hope you were pleased with her show
too! I think we can always learn something new from every speaker!
President’s
Challenge:
This month I
am asking for your red, white and blue projects! It's Memorial Day, so I
thought it would be fitting! I am hoping to get 15 or MORE quilts , or purses,
or table runners up there! After all, this is a QUILT guild! Hahaha! If
you need help to hold your quilts, have no fear we have some ladies that have
volunteered to hold the quilts while we talk! Isn't that awesome? So, remember
my goal is 15 ! Don't let me down!
Star Challenge
The
star challenge DEADLINE is the May meeting. May 31, 2017.
Leslie’s stars : She is putting together an I Spy quilt . It can be any
color, as long as the center is a fussy cut , person, place or thing . Everyone
likes to play I spy.
Anne’s stars:
Anne is putting the stars together for the wounded warriors. She is
Asking that the center be red, the points be blue and the
background white.
Charlie’s stars:
Charlie is putting together quilts for charity. She is taking any
Color or
pattern that you feel like making. She said she will make it work. I kind of
think she will. So, keep those stars coming in. Charlie only had 11 stars ,
maybe we can sneak a few extra to help her out!
We welcome
visitors to all of our meetings. The guild charges a fee of $7.00 for
non-members when we have a speaker.
Our speaker for May is Mary Bajcz.
Her trunk show is Scrap Happy Serendipity quilts. About Mary Bajcz…as stated on
her website: I’ve made quilts for about 35 years and am constantly delighted by
the endless ways fabrics can be combined into a beautiful and useful quilt-art
that can keep you warm. I enjoy the serendipity in quilt making. I start out
with an idea, assemble a pile of fabrics, start cutting and sewing and watch to
see if good things happen. They usually do. I also make smaller art quilts,
reversible silk jackets, and loads of handbags. About12 years ago I discovered
“free cut piecing”, a technique that lets me “draw” with my rotary cutter. It’s
my artistic voice!
It sounds
like a fun lecture! Bring a friend.
Our speaker for June is Pam
Anchatz, traditional quilts, hand quilting and hand piecing. It looks
like we are going to be enjoying a lot of different talents in the upcoming
months. I am looking forward to learning new things, how about you?
Hospitality

We are

If we don’t
get a volunteer to write the newsletter, I am afraid there won’t be a
newsletter in the future. Think about it. It takes everyone to keep the guild
running smoothly.
